OpenTSP NG Vocallo Media Processing Unit Introduction

The OpenTSP NG Vocallo Media Processing Unit (MPU) is based on Octasic's Vocallo MGW, 15-core, ultra-low power DSP processor for voice and video over IP. This reduces system costs by delivering the lowest power per channel and comes with support for packet-based, wideband audio as well as video processing for real-time communications.

OpenTSP NG Vocallo MPU is available as a board-level product or as a boxed media applications platform designed for performance-demanding applications. Due to the increasing demand and complexity in networking environments, systems integrators and solution providers are seeking platforms that can manage high-speed media processing and VSN's MPU definitely delivers.

Designed for Wideband

Vocallo MGW is designed for wideband from the ground up. It supports voice codecs such as G.722 and AMR-WB and all other required features for wideband such as conferencing, tone detection and a wideband-enabled TDM bus.

Echo Cancellation and VQE

Solutions for Echo Cancellation (EC) and Voice Quality Enhancement (VQE) are highly complex and hard to obtain. Sixty million lines in networks worldwide rely on Octasic's carrier-recognised EC and VQE solutions. These exceed the requirements of the latest G.168 standard tests to deliver leading voice quality and a transparent user experience and include echo cancellation with extended tail lenght (up to 890ms) for VoIP calls with large delays.

Extremely Low Latency

Vocallo is designed for processing media connections with minimum latency. Its packet-based software architecture avoids flow-pinning and fixed scheduling. Media channels are flexibly scheduled, adapting to network packet delay distributions. This reduces the required scheduling delay by orders of magnitude for both packet-to-packet and packet-to-TDM flows.

Advanced Video Applications

Vocallo MGW supports applications such as 3G-324M, Interactive Voice Video Response (IVVR), video-conferencing and video-enabled services with capabilities such as real-time video transcoding using H.263, MPEG-4 and H.264 codecs, video transrating and conferencing. Vocallo MGW also provides sophisticated video mixing capabilities. Up to 16 layers can be assembled in real-time to create IVVR menus, Picture-in-Picture (PIP) or branded video streams. Each layer can be a video stream, an image, a colour box or text. When applying the layer, the user can dynamically control the size, position, luma key and opacity.

Robust Video Solution for Today's Networks

Vocallo MGW video codecs have been designed to address the unique challenges of delivering high-quality video on error-prone and bandwidth-constrained wireless networks. All codecs include error resilience and concealment techniques to minimise the effects of packet loss. The integration of voice and video on the same device allows Vocallo MGW to maintain perfect A/V synchronisation. The bit rate controller developed by Octasic optimises the trade-off between quality and bit rate. This provides the best possible image quality on bandwidth-constrained links such as those found in mobile networks. Vocallo MGW can therefore overcome situations such as network congestion ensuring fluid playback.

OpenTSP NG Base Daughterboard

The OpenTSP NG Base Daughterboard (purchased seperatly) allows usage of OpenTSP NG daughterboards in smaller production environments that do not require the processing power of the OpenTSP NG Octeon Network Processing Unit, prototyping Vocallo applications and easy testing of in-house developed daughterboards following the OpenTSP NG standard.

The Base Daughterboard needs a single 5V DC powersupply (adapter supplied) and provides LED indicators (power and data), a Reset button and several connections to the DUT and outside world like 1 GbE, I2C for general purpose functions, serial connector for management functions, SPI connector for FLASH programming and a JTAG Boundery scan connector.
